I'm gonna hazard a quess here; this is either Wilt having a classic near-death experience sometimes following his injury and separation from his creator, or him developing a consciousness right before he took physical shape after being imagined.
Really nice, in either case, with a great expression, and some interesting symbolic imagery with him in such a child-like, almost infantile pose.

Lying Face Down. Lying Face Down. In the gutter now so damn proud.
According to my theory on how imaginary friends are "imagined", they start by earning their biological form (therefore his shoes, socks and wristbands aren't there). However, before their forms are solid enough, anything might happen to their bodies, as they are not solid enough to "fight" a force that could possibly minorly/majorly alter their physical appearance. (Also, this could explain why Wilt's feet are the way they are - before complete solidification something might've "bumped" into his feet causing the "big" toe to separate from the other toes)
This is basically the imaginary equivalent to say...an embryo slowly becoming a newborn baby, except that once the imaginary friend is solid enough, they are at their desired form.
The light is warm and gentle, and guides them to be "created", the final step of creation. The darkness, however, is cold and harsh, and attempts to make the imaginary being disappear forever. I highly doubt though that there ever was a darkness in Wilt's case - I bet Jordan was determined to become that basketball star he is now.
Last and not least, once brought into Earth, they somehow forget everything that occured before, basically giving them a "restart" in life, even though before was "pre-life".
Whoa...I wrote a novel there...
